Your journey begins upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Our team will meet you outside the arrivals and drive you to your hotel in Thamel. In the afternoon, spend some time resting and recovering.

In the evening, Mountain Lust Adventures will host a welcome dinner to discuss the itinerary, road conditions, and safety for the upcoming days.

Board a private 4WD jeep and head to Pokhara after breakfast. The journey takes you along the winding Prithvi Highway. Choosing the right side of the vehicle gives you uninterrupted views of the roaring Trishuli River and gorges.

By late afternoon, you will reach Pokhara. Spend your evening grabbing a coffee at Lakeside and resting up; the paved roads end tomorrow.

Prepare for a bumpy day as you leave Pokhara. Your journey takes you through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest on earth, and makes a quick stop by the thundering Rupse Waterfall, right next to the dirt track.

As you pass through Ghasa, notice how the dense forests are suddenly replaced by barren cliffs and fierce winds. You will take a break in Marpha to explore its whitewashed stone houses. Be sure to try the local dried apples or fresh cider here.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Jomsom. A quick tip: The Kali Gandaki valley acts as a natural wind tunnel. After 11:00 AM, the crosswinds pick up aggressively, so keep a buff around your neck and secure your camera in a dust-proof bag as soon as you step out of the jeep.

You officially enter the restricted "Forbidden Kingdom" today. The checkpoint is at Kagbeni, a stunning medieval stone village. You drive past the cliffs of Chhusang and navigate steep desert canyons toward Chele. Climbing up to the wide plateau of Syangbochen, you are greeted by absolute silence and sweeping panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Today’s drive is short and takes you to the most iconic landmarks in Mustang. You will pass through Ghami to see one of Nepal's longest mani walls and visit the famous red Dhakmar cliffs, which, local legend claims, are stained with the blood of a demon.

The Lo-La Pass at 3,950 meters is your final hurdle before reaching the capital. The high-altitude sun glare as you crest the pass is intense, so keep your polarized sunglasses handy. Enjoy your first spectacular bird's-eye view of the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang below.

Today's itinerary is dedicated to the heritage of Mustang. Visit the 15th-century Thubchen Monastery with its towering red hall, and the Jampa Monastery, known as the "God House." In the afternoon, the drive continues toward the 2000-year-old Chhoser Caves near the Korala Border (the border between Nepal and Tibet). These multi-story caverns served as meditation chambers and shelters, carved into the sheer cliff face.

The ceilings inside the Chhoser caves are low. Most corridors remain pitch black. Use a small headlamp to navigate these 2,000-year-old caves.

After completing the Lo Manthang excursion, you will descend back toward Lower Mustang. The drive back gives you a new perspective on this ancient Himalayan kingdom. During your journey, keep your eyes on the high ridges above the road as this area is a prime habitat for wild blue sheep.

Spend the night in Kagbeni, a photogenic village made of mud-brick houses, ancient gates, and narrow stone tunnels. Explore the famous alleys to experience the blend of Tibetan and Thakali culture.

You leave the arid high-altitude desert behind and drop back down through the Kali Gandaki Gorge. Expect a long, bumpy drive alongside waterfalls and over suspension bridges as you drive back to Pokhara.

You will retrace your journey along the Prithvi Highway back to the capital. Once you arrive and check into your hotel, you have the rest of the afternoon free. Grab some souvenirs to take back home to remember your incredible journey to Upper Mustang.

Highway traffic in Nepal can be highly unpredictable due to road conditions or heavy transport trucks, so it is best to keep your evening plans in Kathmandu flexible.
